Total Quality Logistics Continues to Invest Millions in Ohio
The state’s workforce capabilities and dedication to innovation drive TQL’s growth
Company Profile
Total Quality Logistics (TQL) uses industry leading technology to create supply chain efficiencies for customers like Hello Fresh, Nestle, Pepsico, Inc., Walmart, and Proctor & Gamble. TQL connects clients with truckload, LTL (less than truckload), and intermodal shipping modes with carriers that have the available capacity and service offerings.
Founded in 1997, TQL is Cincinnati’s largest private company and the nation’s second largest freight brokerage firm, employing over 9,000 people in 56 offices across the U.S. As a $7.9 billion business that constantly invests in its employees, TQL repeatedly wins best workplace from organizations like Forbes and Inc.
Business Needs
Each year, TQL moves 3 million loads of freight across the U.S. through its comprehensive portfolio of logistics services and network of more than 130,000 carriers. TQL is experiencing significant growth, with a substantial increase in revenue and number of employees.
TQL knows growing a business requires more space and more management. To meet demand for the company’s services, TQL put its trust in Ohio and chose to reinvest in the area and create new jobs. In 2021, TQL grew headcount by 49%. As a result, the company plans to grow its presence in the state.
Ohio Solutions
With the support of JobsOhio, REDI Cincinnati, Clermont County, and Union Township, TQL will expand its footprint in the state with a total investment of $78 million. This development serves as the company’s third expansion in the region since 2019.
Having operated in the Cincinnati region for more than two decades, TQL has experienced firsthand Ohio’s competitive advantage — a strong workforce, strategic location, and excellent infrastructure.
Ohio’s workforce is educated, skilled, and resilient. Ohioans meet the needs of a variety of industries, including logistics and transportation firms like TQL. Through its talented labor force, Ohio has prepared TQL to serve the demands of a fast-paced digital world. The company plans to add 1,000 additional jobs to the area, which will include entry level and senior roles across information technology, sales, customer service and operations. As TQL continues to grow its market share, the company also plans to substantially expand its real estate investments in the state. Ohio — with its robust distribution and supply chain — was recently named among the top 10 best states for business by CNBC because of its infrastructure and logistics capabilities. The state’s strong manufacturing base, proximity to airports, highways, and waterways, and skilled talent pool make the area a strategic venture for logistics and transportation companies, helping to fulfill the needs of customers at any time and any location. The partnership between TQL and Ohio continues to thrive, and the state’s Logistics and Distribution sector is better because of it. This latest expansion further positions TQL for future success.
“We cannot think of a better way to celebrate our 25th year as a business than through this significant expansion,” said TQL President Kerry Byrne. “Thank you to Governor DeWine, REDI Cincinnati, JobsOhio, Clermont County and Union Township for their continued support.”
