Libbey Glass Continues to Thrive in Ohio for Over 130 Years
Proudly Made in Ohio
Ohio is home to one of the oldest glass manufacturers in the U.S., Libbey Glass. Libbey has been manufacturing the finest environmentally responsible glassware and tabletop products since 1818. In 1888, Libbey relocated from Massachusetts to Toledo, Ohio where it continues to operate today.
Libbey provides products for national chain restaurants including Olive Garden and Starbucks as well as many local establishments in Northwest Ohio. It also makes products found at retailers including Walmart and Target.
As an American-based business with a global reach, Libbey is proud of the Midwestern grit and entrepreneurial spirit found in its hometown of Toledo.
Thriving in the Glass City
Libbey has a global footprint with locations in five countries but is proud to have its world headquarters in Ohio, along with one of its premier manufacturing facilities.
When Libbey first considered Ohio, the state’s abundant natural gas resources and access to large deposits of high-quality sand as well as Toledo’s network of railroad and steamship lines were ideal for the company. When it moved to Toledo, Libbey became a staple of the community and was the catalyst for getting Toledo the nickname, “The Glass City.”
The valuable reasons that brought Libbey to the region over 130 years ago are still true today. Ohio’s central location offers Libbey access to many great logistics and shipping options as well as rich raw materials. Libbey’s 950 hard-working associates are also a large part of the company’s success, bringing grit, passion, and commitment to their work every day. Moreover, Ohio provides a high quality of life for Libbey employees and their families.
Powerful Partnerships Fuel the Company and Community
The state of Ohio and the city of Toledo have been integral partners to Libbey’s longevity. To show their thanks, the Libbey team is active in local philanthropy.
The company’s leadership team is comprised of Ohio natives and many of its associates volunteer, sit on boards, and gives back to the community.
Meanwhile, Ohio’s economic development partners, have helped Libbey’s ongoing growth. JobsOhio and the Regional Growth Partnership, along with many others, have made efforts to understand Libbey, appreciate its legacy, invest time and energy into its strategic future.
As the world emerges from the pandemic, Ohio will play a key role in Libbey’s ongoing success. Libbey plans to continue to invest and grow its Toledo manufacturing facility with new manufacturing lines and increased flexibility as it aims to provide customers around the world with high-quality glass and tabletop products that consumers can enjoy as they reunite with their loved ones.
“As we leverage our 200+ year foundation of business to shape a future that can weather any storm, we are so grateful for our people, our makers. We could not have our levels of staying power without our committed, talented and passionate team! They deserve the credit for our past and future success!”
