NuVasive Celebrates State-of-the-Art Manufacturing Facility
NuVasive’s Ohio expansion has been nearly two years in the making, and today the medical device company unveiled its $45 million state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in West Carrollton to the economic development teams that helped make it happen.
NuVasive, based in San Diego, California, is the world’s third-largest spinal devices company. It will produce all of its medical implants and other devices for global distribution from the 180,000-square-foot facility. The expansion ibrings nearly 200 new jobs while also retaining 97 employees who will transfer from its current Fairborn facility.
NuVasive’s executive team hosted city officials and representatives from Dayton Development Coalition, JobsOhio, Montgomery County and the city of West Carrollton to celebrate what will be the company’s new center of excellence.
“With this new facility and our longer-term plans to also expand our manufacturing footprint globally we expect to increase customer responsiveness, dramatically improve inventory turns and speed up design time to more efficiently meet the growing demand for our innovative spine technology “ said Gregory T. Lucier, NuVasive’s chairman and chief executive officer.
In 2015, NuVasive announced plans to expand operations by basing its center of excellence in Ohio. Due to its rapid growth, NuVasive needed a larger facility in which to research, manufacture and develop its existing 90 products, as well as newly launched products.
“It is exciting to support NuVasive’s growth as a healthcare innovator and its manufacturing presence in the United States while providing approximately 300 full-time, high-tech jobs for the Dayton region, ” said Aaron Pitts, JobsOhio managing director for healthcare.
NuVasive has hired roughly 150 people to date with full employment expected in 2018.
