Breeze Debuts First Nonstop Service to Los Angeles
The first-ever non-stop flight from Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) to Los Angeles (LAX) made its inaugural flight on Breeze Airways on Thursday, May 23, 2024. The new West Coast route is a summer seasonal offering, with nonstop service on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.
In 2021, through the JobsOhio Air Service Restoration program, Breeze and CAK partnered to launch three flights. Since then, the partnership has flourished with CAK being one of the top-performing markets in the Breeze network. Recently, Breeze became CAK’s largest carrier with nine nonstop destinations from CAK.
“Today, we celebrate Breeze Airways’ inaugural nonstop flight from Akron-Canton to LAX—the farthest direct flight from CAK to the West Coast,” said JobsOhio President and CEO J.P. Nauseef. “Breeze Airways’ partnership with the Akron-Canton Airport is a prime example of the success of the JobsOhio Air Service Restoration program, which was created to connect Ohioans to more parts of the country and provide greater access to Ohio for other markets nationwide.”
In three years, the low-cost carrier has expanded to offer more than 170 nonstop routes from 56 cities across 29 states and has flown more than five million guests. In addition to CAK, Breeze also flies out of two additional Ohio airports: Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) and John Glenn International Airport (CMH) in Columbus.
“Since we started flying in May 2021, Breeze has continued to add great destinations to our rapidly growing footprint, and now we’re the largest carrier'from Akron/Canton with eleven nonstop and BreezeThru destinations,” said Breeze CEO and Founder David Neeleman. “The new summer LAX addition will surely be welcomed as we continue to bring efficient, affordable, and elevated travel to underserved markets.”
“We are thrilled with Breeze’s new, nonstop service to Los Angeles from CAK today, a route that will provide Northeast Ohio with more convenient and efficient travel options,” said Ren Camacho, Akron-Canton Airport President and CEO. “This route exemplifies Breeze Airways’ commitment to expanding connectivity and enhancing the passenger experience to in-demand destinations.”
Travelers flying out of CAK on Breeze have the option to fly to the following destinations: Charleston, SC; Fort Myers, FL; Las Vegas, NV; Los Angeles, CA; Myrtle Beach, SC; Norfolk, VA; Orlando, FL; Raleigh-Durham, NC; and Tampa, FL. It also offers two BreezeThru routes (one-stop/no plane change) to New Orleans, LA, and New York/Westchester, NY.
Since the program JobsOhio Air Service Restoration program was established in 2020, JobsOhio and its partners have had agreements with six airlines at five Ohio airports. This includes 27 domestic routes and two international routes. The airlines with which JobsOhio and its partners have agreements are Breeze Airways, Alaska Airlines, Aer Lingus, United, and British Airways. Domestic flights get a maximum of one year of support. More than 528,000 seats have annually added 4.6% to Ohio’s capacity since March 2021. The JobsOhio Air Service Restoration Program has had an annual economic impact of up to $577 million.
