JobsOhio R&D Center Grant Supports Future Innovation from New University Circle Facility
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 1, 2020
Cleveland – Today, Nottingham Spirk, in partnership with Ernst & Young, announced it will create a 60,000 square-foot EY-Nottingham Spirk Innovation Hub at their current facility in Cleveland’s University Circle Area, further enhancing the region’s industrial legacy and commitment to advanced manufacturing transformation. The project is being assisted by a $1.5 million JobsOhio Research and Development Center Grant.
“Ohio will now be a destination for global manufacturers seeking the latest advanced techniques and possible plant relocations,” said John Spirk, Co-President and Co-Founder of Nottingham Spirk. “We are already working with regional, national and international firms to upgrade their innovation processes, digitizing their plant operations and advancing their commercialization techniques.”
The Innovation Hub will guide manufacturing leaders along the journey to the next generation of technology through “hands-on” physical and virtual experiences utilizing Industry 4.0, which utilizes the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) connected technology.
“Cleveland’s rich history of innovation and industry advancement continues with the EY-Nottingham Spirk Innovation Hub. Organizations make confident decisions when they understand the future they are preparing for and the tools that will help them succeed,” said John Nottingham, Co-President and Co-Founder of Nottingham Spirk. “Once secure, they can be more open to process evolution.”
Nottingham Spirk and Ernst & Young worked closely with JobsOhio and Team NEO to bring the project and $3.9 million investment to the University Circle area.
“The EY-Nottingham Spirk facility will combine the innovative strength of two organizations on the cutting edge of connectivity, automation and manufacturing,” said J.P. Nauseef, JobsOhio president and CEO. “This is going to be a state-of-the-art facility that will drive the future of manufacturing worldwide with advancements made in Northeast Ohio.”
“This partnership between Nottingham Spirk and EY, as well as unique capabilities being created through JobsOhio’s R&D Grant, represent an incredible asset for Northeast Ohio that complements important work of the Cleveland Innovation Project to encourage technology adoption among mid-size and small manufacturing companies,” added Bill Koehler, Team NEO CEO. “The opportunity to enhance innovation within the full spectrum of Northeast Ohio manufacturers and others we can attract to the region will help ensure our long-term economic competitiveness.”
A multidisciplinary approach featuring technology collaboration tools will feature live factory-of-the-future production and end-to-end supply chain interactive experiences around connected products and electric vehicles, as well as a studio for rapid prototyping and advanced machining.
“By combining EY global innovation knowledge with the creative momentum happening in Cleveland, we will help establish this city as a manufacturing innovation hub in the United States. We are proud to invest in the growing EY manufacturing presence, and to help define this next chapter for the city where EY US was founded,” said Brad Newman, EY Americas Advanced Manufacturing & Mobility Leader.
The partnership that will establish the EY-Nottingham Spirk Innovation Hub combine’s Nottingham Spirk’s Vertical Innovation™ disciplines with EY business model, digital, manufacturing and EY wavespace™ offerings. Opening of the facility is planned for spring 2021.
